Jail, which is also known as prison, is a place used for the detention of prisoners. To maintain the administrative arrangement in the Jails of Chhattisgarh, Jail Superintendents are posted in the Central Jails and District Jails. Medical Officers are posted as a Superintendent in Sub Jails. OBJECTIVES OF JAIL DEPARTMENT The main objectives of jail department are to ensure :- Ø Custody, Security, Reform and rehabilitation of prisoners. Ø Compliance with provisions of the Act and Rules governing the department. Ø Smooth functioning of jail establishment. ORGANISATIONAL SET-UP The department of prisons is under the administrative control of the Principal Secretary to the Government, Home Department and is headed by the DG & IG (Prisons), Assisted by a DIG (Deputy Inspector General) and an AIG (Assistant Inspector General).
